Dear Ms. Hull:

Enlcosed is the May, 1986 NIPDWR Monitoring Report for Pennsylvania Power and Light Company's Susquehanna Steam Electric Station. During the period of May 15-20, 1986, the turbidity levels in the domestic water were between 1.5 and 2.4 NTUs. Check samples were taken and reported to the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Resources within the one hour reporting period.

On May 19, 1986, this domestic system was posted because of the continued high turbidities. This posting was removed on May 21, 1986, once the turbidity level of one NTU, the Maximum Contaminant Level was met. Also, during the period of May 15-18, 1986, the free available chlorine level was between 0.23 and 1.5 mg/l ensuring that the water was safe to drink. See attached table.

The high turbidity was caused by a loss of alum feed to the reactivator due to a break in the alum pump discharge line. The line was repaired on May 15, 1986, but it took until May 21, 1986, to get the turbidity level down to 1 NTU.
