REVIEW OF COMMON QUALIFIED PLATFORM TOPICAL REPORT (CENPD-396-P, REV. 00) AND SOFTWARE PROGRAM MANUAL FOR COMMON Q SYSTEMS (CE-CES-195-P. REV 00)
Dear Mr. Phelps,
I am responding to your letter dated March 10,1999, on this subject. The Nuclear Regulatory Commission is in receipt of the subject reports and has begun its review. I am aware of the obsolescence issues that utilities are facing with existing instrumentation and control (l&C) equipment. I also understand that the Combustion Engineering Owners Group (CEOG) intends
. to rely on the ABB Advant-160 PLC platform described in the reports to replace some older I&C equipment.
It is my intention to assign enough resources to the review of the reports such that, barring unforseen circumstances, a safety evaluation can be issued by September 1999 as you requested. I look forward to discussing this issue with you at the next CEOG Executive Committee meeting on May 13,1999.
