Dear Mr. Keppler:

Reference (a) requested that Commonwealth Edison provide a

report concerning diesel generator cooling water check valve information for each of our operating plants. Zion Station information was transmitted by References (b), (c) and (d). This final supplemental response completes the reporting requirements contained in Reference (a).

t-Valves 2SWOO10 and 2SWOOll were inspected on October 25, 1985 and November 25, 1985, respectively. Both valves were stuck in the open position due to a combination of wear and corrosion.

Valve 2SWOO10 was disassembled and noted to have an excess amount of wear at the pivot points of the disc arm. While this was more wear than-expected, the valve was not considered failed using the examples of I.E. Bulletin 83-03. The valve disc holder hanger was replaced and the valve was cleaned prior to reinstallation. ,

Valve 2SWOO11 was disassembled and no abnormal conditions specifiad in I.E. Bulletin 83-03 were noted. The valve was cleaned and proper operation was visually verified prior to reinstallation in the system.

Although these service water check valves were found stuck in the open position, we believe this was not of safety significance i since the diesel generator coolers were always supplied with cooling water.

To the best of my knowledge and belief these statements are true and correct. In some respects these statements are not based

, on my personal knowledge but upon information furnished by other Commonwealth Edison employees, consultants or contractor. Such information has been reviewed in accordance with Company practice and I believe it to be reliable.

Please address any questions that you or your staff may have concerning this response to this office.
