Beaver Valley Power Staticn - Unit No. 2 Docket No. 50-412 Use of ASME III Code Case N-318-2 Gentlemen:
Duquesne Light Company (DLC) requests NRC approval to use Code Case N-318-2 (" Procedure for Evaluation of the Design of Rectangular Cross Section Attachments on Class 2 or 3 Piping,Section III, Division I") for Beaver Valley Power Station - Unit No. 2 (BVPS-2). The use of this code case is expected to reduce the amount of hardware modifications resulting from the BVPS-2 stress reconciliation program.
The latest revision (Revision 23) of Regulatory Guide 1.84 lists Code Case N-318-1 as acceptable for use. Based on recent informal discussions with the NRC, it is DLC's understanding that Code Case N-318-2 will be incorporated into Revision 24 of Regulatory Guide 1.84.
The appropriate revisions to the BVPS-2 FSAR, the related specifications, and the BVPS-2 ASME Code Baseline Document will be made upon your approval, which is requested by May 16, 1986.
