To Whom It Should Concern:
This letter is to introduce Klaus Schumann. Mr. Schumann is representing a non-partisan organization, the Nuclear Waste Information Committee (NuWIC) ofSan Luis Obispo County.
NuWIC is primarily concerned with the transportation ofspent nuclear fuel rods from the Diablo Canyon Nuclear Power Plant in San Luis Obispo County to the county line, or the l
storage of spent fuel rods at the plant. Although a member of the Board of Supervisors, I am also the interim chair of a citizen's committee, the Nuclear Waste Management Committee (N%MC), which has the same concern, and the two committees work in tandem.
We have been interested in this subject since we realized that there are some very real problems for our county associated with this transportation. We've had speakers and regular attendance at our meetings from the California Highway Patrol and the California Department of Transportation (CalTrans). We have also had speakers from Cal Poly at San Luis Obispo, from pertinent county offices, and from Nevada. And we are in the process of compiling this information into a report.
Sincerely, s
/
