SUMMARY

OF FEBRUARY 24,1999, MEETING WITH ABB COMBUSTION ENGINEERING NUCLEAR POWER REGARDING IMPROVED ABB PRESSUrRIZED WATER REACTOR FUEL On February 24,1999, ABB Combustion Engineering Nuclear Power (ABB CENP) met with Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) staff at the NRC headquarters in Rockville, MD. provides a list of meeting attendees.

The purpose of the meeting was to discuss ongoing and future licensing plans and interactions by the ABB CENP Fuel Operations group with various NRC organizations. The majority of the presentation material and the discussion involved proprietary material. The non-proprietary version of the slides used by ABB CENP is included as Attachment 2.

Representatives from ABB CENP described the new pressurized water reactor (PWR) fuel design features and the expected benefits of these features. They also diccussed the testing that has been done and the lead fuel assemblies installed at various plants. They noted that they will be submitting a topical report with a new correlation for determining departure from nucleate boiling (DNB) in the near future.
