Washington, D.C. 20555 l

Dear Commissioners,

As you now know, we on the East End of Long Island are l

increasingly concerned about Northeast Utilities' Mill-stone plant less than 15 miles from our shores.

Our Congressman Michael Forbes has called for a shutdown of the faulty Reactor #3 which just last week has leaked l

-800 gallons of water with radioactive tritium into l

Long Island Sound. Congressman Forbes'also asked that you i

deny NU's request to reopen Millstone Reactor #2.

We request a public hearing here on the East End of Long Island before the NRC decides for or against the restart. At that hearing the NRC should also present a plan of thorough and continuous monitoring of our air and water for any levels.of radionuclides. Your stated mission is "to ensure adequate protection of the public health and safety, the common defense and security, and l

the environment in the use of nuclear materials in the

. United States." Unless you truly represent the public health and safety you are not fulfilling your mission-and we, the public, can demand whatever changes in the NRC are needed to dequately serve us.

Sincerely,
