Dear Sir:
In September of 1986, the WPI Nuclear Reactor Facility received a grant of
$39,800 from the U. S. Department of Energy for the conversion of the Reactor to LEU. The letter certifying the availability of funds is enclosed.
Preparation of the safety analysis report and other documents for the conversion is currently underway and should be submitted to the NRC by May 1, 1987.
Upon receipt of the NRC order to convert, the following schedule is esti-mated for the completion of the conversion:
Number of Months After NRC Order 1
Completion of planning and scheduling 3
Receipt of LEU fuel 5
Completion of HEU testing 6
Replacement of fuel in reactor 9
HEU shipment; dependent on shipping availability 10 Completion of LEU initial testing 12 Converstion report sent to NRC If I can be of further assistance, or can supply further information, please let me know.
