t REANALYSIS OF HPCI STEAM SUPPLY LINE WITH ENERGY ABSORBERS AS REPLACEMENTS FOR HYDRAULIC SNUBBERS SYSTEM DESCRIPTION Original Configuration with Snubbers The HPCI steam supply line (HISO-2301) of unit 2 is a single 10" pipe run, from the containment penetration to the HPCI steam turbine inlet.
There are two valves in the system, one located right after the penetration, the other before the turbine. The system is supported by 8 springs, 7 snubbers. The snubbers are S-29, S-28, S-1, S-27, S-2, S-4 and S-3.
Fig.1 is an isometric showing the relative locations of all components.
Revised Configuration with Energy Absorbers i
With energy absorbers, all snubbers can be removed except that the snubbers S-1 and S-3 have to be replaced by energy absorbers. The replacement energy absorbers use the identical location and orientation as original snubbers. Fig. 2 shows the revised configuration.

ANALYSIS PERFORMED Weight and Thernal Analysis The configuration modified with energy absorbers was reanalyzed for all 1
load cases for which it had been previously qualified. For all weight and thermal analyses, the energy absorbers were modeled as linear spring elements with a stiffness equal to the elastic spring rate of energy absorbers because the resulting movements are lower than the yield displacements. The final results were checked to insure all energy absorbers are indeed deformed within elastic range.
Seismic Analysis The seismic design basis for Peach Bottom is based on an analysis for a two-directional earthquake (maximum of X+Y or Z+Y responses),1/2%
damping ratio, SRSS modal combinations, and an application of a response spectrum curve representing the location where the majority of the system is located. This is also the basis of the system analysis of the snubber configuration. The response spectrum applied was for elevation 135' of the reactor building. Similar analyses were performed for the revised configuration, except that the higher modal damping ratios induced by l
energy absorbers are used, t

SUMMARY
OF RESULTS The purpose of this reanalysis is to minimize the number of seismic restraints while maintaining all responses within allowables. Therefore, only two energy absorbers are applied in the revised configuration which results in a maximum modal damping ratio of only approximately 5% as shown in Table 1 for the SSE event in X-Y direction. Table 2 shows the stress summary of original configuration and Table 3 for the revised configuration.
Both configurations have similar stress levels which are
/25 well below allowables. Table 4 and 5 show the restraint load summary for the original configuration and the revised configuration respectively.
Fig. 3 indicates that turbine nozzle loads are within allowables.
Finally the maximum valve acceleration is.26g which is well within allowable.
