PART 21 NOTIFICATION DATED FEBRUARY 20, 1986 REGARDING ACCURACY OF INSTRUMENTATION TO DETECT INADEQUATE CORE COOLING Pursuant to July 24 and July)25,1986and Westinghouse (Morris, et al), justification telephone conversations between the NRC staff (Lobel, Karsch, Walker was presented regarding the continued operation of nuclear plants with the Westinghouse Inadequate Core Cooling system installed pending completion of additional qualified life testing of RTD connectors inside containment.
Westinghouse presented information regarding design similarity to connectors which have successfully completed testing and stated that the presently envisioned program is scheduled for completion by November 1986.
In order to facilitate licensing actions currently under review by the NRC staff, documentation of these statements should be provided no later than September 12, 1986.
