Odegaarden Introduction At the request of GNS, a eceting was held at Silver Spring, !!aryland, on October 31, 1985, to discuss tests for denonstrating fracture toughness of nodular cast iron.
Discussion The NRC staff letter dated February 23, 1984, concerning nodular cast iron was discussed in detail. The requirenents for a full scale test with an internal flaw and establishing material properties were reiterated.
The structural integrity of the internal fuel basket was also discussed.
The principle concern regarded the demonstration that the fuel basket naintain the internal neutron flux traps following the drop tests.
No schedules were discussed or established for submitting an application for nodular cast iron shipping casks.
