SUMMARY

OF OPERATING EXPERIENCE UNIT 1 The unit entered the reporting period at a power level of 1050 MWe (99% reactor power). On May 4th at 0256 hours the reactor tripped, due to high positive flux rate caused by turbine governor valves going closed and then open due to momentary loss of EHC system pressure during turbine reheat and intercept valve testing. On May 6th at 1925 hours the unit was made critical and on May 7th at 0135 hours the unit was synchronized to the grid. May 9th at 0300, the Unit was shutdown to repair 18 Main Steam isolation valve check valve. Disc of check valve had become separated causing restriction in steamline. On May 18th at 1223 hours the unit was made critical and at 2200 hours the unit was synchronized to the grid. The unit remained on line the remainder of the report period ending at a power level of 1007 MWe (99% reactor power) and having an availability factor of 58.9%. Unit 2 The unit entered the reporting period at a power level of 990 MWe (90% reactor power). On May 19th at 1717 hours, the reactor tripped due to 2A Steam Generator Lo-Low level caused by 2B turbine driven feedwater pump ! going to minimum speed when instrument mechanics inadvertently deenergized j control power to feed pump control system. On May 19th at 2214 hours, the i unit was made critical and May 20th at 0412 hours the unit was l synchronized to the grid. The unit remained on line for the remainder of the reporting period ending at a power level of 1090 MWe (99% reactor power) and having an availability factor of 98.5%. l 1109t

REFUELING INFORMATION RE0 VEST Questions:

1. Name of facility.
2. Scheduled date for next refueling shutdown.
3. Scheduled date for restart following refueling.
4. . Will refueling or resumption of operation thereafter require a technical specification change or other license amendment?

If answer is yes, what, in general, will these be? If answer is no, has the reload fuel design and core configuration been reviewed by your Plant Safety Review Committee to determine whether any unreviewed safety questions are associated with the core reload (Ref. 10 CFR Section 50.59)? If no such review has taken place, when is it scheduled?

5. Scheduled date (s) for submitting proposed licensing action and supporting information.
6. Important licensing considerations associated with refueling, e.g., new or dif ferent fuel design or supplier, unreviewed design or performance analysis methods, significant changes in fuel design, new operating procedures.
7. The number of fuel assemblies (a) in the core and (b) in the spent fuel storage pool.
8. The present licensed spent fuel pool storage capacity and the size of any increase in licensed storage capacity that has been requested or is planned, in number of fuel assemblies.
9. The projected date of the last refueling that can be discharged to the spent fuel pool assuming the present licensed capacity.

Unit 1 - Answers

1. Zion Unit 1
2. July 10,1986,is the scheduled date for the next refueling outage.
3. November 8,1986 is the scheduled date for initial criticality following refueling.
4. A Technical Specification change will be required to permit tube sleeving as a method of steam generator repair. A reload safety evaluation review took place April 1,1986 and identified no unreviewed safety questions.

The onsite review is pending.

5. The sleeving Tech. Spec. change will be submitted in May, 1986
6. None
7. The number of fuel assemblies a) in the core is 193, and b) in the spent fuel storage pool which have been discharged by Zion Unit 1 is 497.
8. The present licensed spent fuel pool storage capacity (shared with Zion Unit 2) is 2112 fuel assemblies. The installation of the new storage racks has been completed.
9. In 1995, Zion Station will lose full core discharge capability. This date is based on a December, 1983 study.
