SUMMARY
OF OPERATING EXPERIENCE DOCKET NO.
50/395 UNIT V. C. SUMMER I DATE 06/11/86 COMPLETED BY G. A. LOIGNON TELEPHONE (803) 345-5209 On May 1, 1986, the V. C. Summer Nuclear Station, Unit 1, was operating at approximately 100 percent power.
On May 31, 1986, at 1026 hours0.0119 days
0.285 hours
0.0017 weeks
3.90393e-4 months
, the plant tripped from 100 percent power.
While testing was in progress on one power range detector channel, a separate channel was inadvertently placed in test causing a reactor trip. Subsequent to the trip, condensate system perturbations created water hammers which resulted in damage to feed heaters and condensate system piping supports.
