Background

~ In.1980, UNC announced plans to decomission the site. The proposed revised ,
1 ' possession limits reflect the decomissioning status and eliminate certain regulatory requirements. D Discussion The licensee proposes to reduce the authorized possession limits to 700 grams -
U-235 and 700 grams source material. The possession limit for U.235 is below -
the limits specified for a criticality monitor alarm system as required by 70.24.
Material contro1~and accounting requirements are also reduced.
Conclusion /Recemendation
' The staff concludes that the amendment will have no adverse effect's on the public health and safety. Approval of the amendment is recomended. .
The Region I Project Inspector has no objections to this proposed action.
