SUMMARY

On August 23,1988 (53 FR 32060), the NRC published for public a

l coment a proposed rule which would provide for issuance of early site

(

1 permits, standard design certifications, and combined construction l

1

)

pemits and conditional operating licenses for nuclear power plants.

l h

The coment period for this proposed rul, was to have expired on

)

October 24, 1988.

However, several organizations and individuals have

[

requested, or have otherwise expressed an interest in, an extension of j

the comment period. Moreover, the agency faces certain exigencies of l

1 l

scheduling which did not arise until recently.

Therefore, balancing the

(

desirability of developing a final rule as soon as practicable against i

i j

the needs of comenters and the constraints of scheduling, the NRC l

l has decided to extend the coment period for an additional fourteen days.

f The extended coment period now expires on November 7,1988.
