REGION III STATUS REPORT.

DAVIS-BESSE LOSS OF FEEDWATER EVENT AUGUST 4, 1986 Plant Status The plant remains in cold shutdown. The primary system is filled with a nitrogen bubble in the pressurizer.

Restart Activities MOVATS testing, envircnmental qualification work and other maintenance activities continue on the 165 safety-related motor-operated valves onsite.

The licensee has completed all planned work on 150 valves and returned them to service.

The NRC test review team continues to provide coverage of licensee testing activities. The licensee's System Review and Test Program (SRTP) includes 284 tests of which 15 will be performed following criticality. This program consists of 170 existing, or modified, surveillance tests and 114 new test procedures. To date 118 tests have been performed. The first major integrated test, the integrated Safety Features Actuation System (SFAS) test is scheduled to start on August 7,1986 and is expected to be completed by August 11, 1986.

Other Activities Three new reactor coolant pump (RCP) rotating elements (shaf t and impeller) are now on site. The licensee has removed interferences in containment in preparation for the pump replacement work, which will start after the integrated SFAS test is completed.

The licensee has inspected more than 500 safety related electrical connections. Approximately 600 remain to be inspected. Only twelve of the 267 Eaychem installations inspected so far were acceptable. The licensee's Raychem test program at Acton Labs (Acton, MA) should be completed this week.

The test report is scheduled to be issued August 19, 1986. The licensee's repair, replacement and engineering review of items requiring environmental qualification (EQ) is continuing. The NRC EQ inspection team is on site to complete the EQ inspection.

The licensce's inspection of 1,821 flood barrier seals protecting safety-related equipment revealed 216 seals that require repair or rework.

O The licensee is also inspecting seals in the floors of 42 rooms to insure that safety-related equipment in the rooms below are protected from water.

Miscellaneous The hearing on NRC approval of the licensee's request to bury byproduct material onsite began on August 5 and is scheduled to be completed by the end of the week.
