SUBJECT:

'RC TMI-LEAhUP PROJECT DIRECTORATE WEEKLY STATUS

' h; FOR HARCH 16 - 22, 1987 yy 1.

DEFUELING I('s<

Two standing peripherial fuel assemblies, A-6 and A-7, were removed c

essentially intact. They were cut and placed in fuel canisters.

M (The intact assemblies are approximately I ft. longer than the

'T available space in the canisters.)

d,,

Removal of these two assemblies greatly improves access to the core f

support assembly and potential access to the lower head.

It will

.1 allow increased flexibility in approaches to defueling those areas.

It also allows an additional access to. adjacent fuel assemblies.

l s'

The licensee is preparing a jacking tool to exploit the new access

.w to adjacent assemblies.
