20555 Attention:

Mr. J. R. Miller, Chief Operating Reactors, Branch 3 Gentlemen:

DOCKET NO. 50-266 ANALYSIS OF SURVEILLANCE CAPSULE T FROM THE REACTOR VESSEL RADIATION SURVEILLANCE PROGRAM POINT BEACH NUCLEAR PLANT, UNIT 1 On March 27, 1984, surveillance capsule T was withdrawn from the Point Beach Unit 1 reactor vessel and subsequently shipped to Westinghouse Electric Corporation for testing and

-evaluation.

An initial draft of the summary test report for this capsule was received for our review and comment on January 2,

- 1985.

Our comments on this draft report were provided to Westinghouse on February 25, 1985.

Wisconsin Electric received the final copy of the capsule T summary test report on April 9,1985.

In our review of this final' report we determined that comments we had provided on the draft report were not properly incorporated in-the final report.

Accordingly, we have directed Westinghouse to revise _the test capsule report.

The provisions of 10 CFR 50, Appendix H, Section III.A, require that surveillance capsule test results be reported to the Director, Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation within one year of capsule withdrawal unless an extension is granted by the Director.

We hereby request an extension until June 1, 1985 to resolve our comments with the testing contractor and provide an accurate summary test report.

Very truly yours, 8504260004 850422 A
