Dear MsJackson:
I am writing to tell you that I oppose the running of the Millstone nuclear power plants in Connecticut. I hope you are aware of the toll that the plant has biologically, and environmentally on the surrounding reason Long Island ( which is only 11 miles away from Millstone ) the rates of cancer victims are significantly larger than those of upstate areas. If there was ever a serious problem with the plant, and radioactive materials leaked out, there would be horrible effects on the economy of New England.
- Along with cancer, the area around the plant has a higher rate of sickness, and diseases than areas further away from the it. If a problem was to occur, and we were exposed to radioactive material, it would only be a matter of time before the radiation started to take toll.. Among the many side effects, sterility, cataracts and Acute Radiation Syndrome, which can be.
fatal, are some of the most common. The internal systems of the residents effected, would also suffer dammage. The Hematopietic, Gastrointestinal and Central Nervous Systems would also be ruined. So in turn, peoples bodies would not function correctly, and hospitals would be overflowing with patients. There would be no way to house all the patients, and some would systematjeally have to be turned away. So if you don't want sickness and death along with nuclear power, you should vote to close the Millstone nuclear reactor.
The Millstone plants are causing billions of hh to die needlessly every year. The water that is needed to cool down the reactors, is taken from the Sound surroun, ling the plant. While the pipes are sacking in water, hh which 9903260113 990322 PNt ADOCK 05000245 H

habituate that area, are also being pulled int. released water is not the same temperature, but degrees hotter so the normally cold water, which the fish are used to is changed, and causes some fish to leave the area. This doesn't help the residential fisherman, with their already challenging occupationAlso if one of the pipes were ever to get clogged and backfire, radioactive materials would be released into the waters and c;.uickly spread.
The waters would become dangerous, and Long Islands major source of revenue would be lost along with tourism I hope you consider all of the consequences carefully, enclosed in my letter arejust a few, and the lives that will be lost out number these greatly. So please shut down Millstone. How many innocent people have to die before this conclusion is made 'l Sincerely,
/
