Honorable Shirley Jackson:
I am a resident of East Hampton, N.Y., and I have been researchmg nuclear power and nuclear power plants, I have found several well-known and published facts from reliable sources. I, therefore, feel that the -
1 Millstone III, in Connecticut, should not re-start. Here are some facts that I would like to share with you.
"Three troubled reactors are located only eleven miles from a densely populated island, with no opportunity to evacuate if an accident occurs."-
From the New York Times and East Hampton Star. "The island" as you probably know, is Long Island, and my home. The quote briefly states that we are "only eleven miles" from nuclear power plants, the main one's are Millstone II, III, and I. It also states that our island has "no chance to evacuate, if an accident occurs", obviously, because the only way off the island is by water, planes, or, of course, the Long Island Expressway!
"After a one billion dollar overhaul to get the reactor back on-line it has had ilve emergency shutdowns in only five months"- From the Channel 12 News and the New York Times. This " reactor" is the Millstone III, to Connecticut. Also, the Hartford Courant proclaimed that "The Unit 3 reactor was shut down for two years because it had one-thousand outstanding safety violations". The " Unit 3 reactor" is Millstone III also.
I feel that Millstone III should not re-start, and I have many facts to back my opinion up. As you can see, I am notjust stating my opinion blindly, I have many true facts. Thank you for your time and hopefully your
