Dear Mr. Youngblood:

Reference:

(1)

Enrico Fermi Atomic Power Plant Unit 2 NRC Docket No. 50-341 (2)

NRC to H.

Tauber letter, " Unqualified Electrical Components in Safety-Related Systems", March 16, 1983

Subject:

Unqualified Electrical Components The referenced NRC letter requested that we indicate within 10 days of receipt of the letter when we could address the subject issue.

On March 15, 1983, Mr. L. Fron, Supervising Engineer of our Equipment Qualification Group had a phone conversation with J. Kennedy, the NRC reviewer for Fermi 2 in the.

Equipment Qualification Branch.

It was decided at that time that our EO report update would be the appropriate place to address the concerns.

The report update (and appropriate justifications for interim operation) is scheduled for submittal to the NRC by July 1, 1983.

Should you have any additional questions, please contact Larry.E. Schuerman, (313) 649-7617.

Mr. Harry Tauber Engineering & Construction Detroit Edison Company 2000 Second Avenue Detroit, Michigan 48226

Dear Mr. Tauber:

Subject:

Unqualified Electrical Components in Safety-Related Systems It has recently come to our attention that there are two components which may be installed in safety-related systems of the Fermi-2 facility and which may not be environmentally qualified.

Specifically, these are items of electrical equipment whose qualification documentation demonstrates significant deficiencies which would affect the ability of the equipment to perform its intended safety function.

These components are:

GE switch, Type. CR 2940 Marathon 6000 series terminal blocks

rr ?.

We request that you review the safety-related systems of the Fermi-2 facility to determine whether these two components are installed or will be installed and state your proposed approach for resolving this matter.

We further request that you indicate within ten days after receipt of this letter when you can address this issue.

If you have any questions on this matter, please contact the Fermi-2 project manager, M. D. Lynch, at (301)492-7050.

Sincerely,

! s
