We received a copy of your March 9,1999, letter addressed to Senator Joseph Bruno regarding the Millstone Nuclear Power Station. The copy of the letter you had sent to Bill Richardson, Secretary of Energy was referred to the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC). We have forwarded your letter to the NRC staff for appropriate consideration. A copy of your letter and this reply are also being placed in Agency records on the Millstone Nuclear Power Station.

We in Eastern Long Island feel that Connecticut's Millstone Nucle.ar Power Plant 12 miles away from us, poses a great threat to our health and safety.
I am frustrated that there is no evacuation plan for. our_ ar.ea in case. of. emergency It is also important for the medical community and the publ.ic to be inf.ormed about potassi.um i.odide (KI)..
This would offer the population some protection in case of radiological emergency (it. acts as. a. thyroid. block.e.r for radioactive iodine 131).
It should be stockpiled and distributed to medical. pe.rsontlet,. pharmac 1sts, and school nurses.
The Mills. tone Nuclear Power Statinn ha.: a long hi. story of systematically violating safety regulations; in fact,'it is operating under pr.obationary control.s.
Please pr. essure the NRC officials to block any attempts to restart Reactor #2.
The Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) is responsible,for public health and safety in regards to the operation of nuclear. power facilities.
The. lagista.ti.cn, A34.65/S2022, directs the NRC to expand its emergency planning for the Millstone plant in order to fulfill its mandate.
