Bureau of Oceans and International Environmental and Scientific Affairs U.S. Department of State Washington, DC 20520

Dear Mr. Thorne:

Enclosed is a letter from Braunkohle Transport USA dated July 30, 1986 requesting an amendment to export license XUO8614 to increase the quantity of

, depleted uranium to be exported to Switzerland by an additional 105,000 kilograms. The material is for use at the CERf! Laboratory for calorimetry experiments.

Although the proposed export normally would not require Executive Branch review under current interagency procedures, NRC would appreciate Executive Branch views on the proposed license, in accordance with established procedures, because of recent concerns regarding shipments of source naterial.

Sincerely, P

-8 R. Peterson, Assistant Director Export / Import and International Safeguards Office of International Programs
