20555 Attention:

Mr. James M. Taylor Gentlemen:

Joseph M. Farley Nuclear Plant Units 1 and 2 IE Bulletin No. 86-02, Static "0" Ring (SOR)

Differential Pressure Switches IE Bulletin No. 86-02, dated July 18, 1986, requested that Alabama Power Company, within 7 days, report on the extent to which SOR Model 102 or 103 differential pressure switches are installed (or planned) as electrical equipment important to safety, as defined in.10CFR50.49(b). In addition, for those SOR Model 102 or 103 differential pressure switches installed in systems subject to limiting conditions for operation in Technical Specifications, positive action must be taken to assure that licensed reactor operators on duty are prepared for potential malfunctions of SOR switches.

In the event that these switches are identified in the above defined systems, special tests and reports are to be conducted and submitted.

An extensive investigation has been c.onducted on the use of SOR Model 102 and 103 differential pressure switenes at Farley Nuclear Plant. Although the results are still considered preliminary, this investigation determined that none of these switches have been installed at Farley Nuclear Plant.

Efforts to conclude this investigation are currently underway and the results will be provided to the Regional Administrator under oath or affirmation by August 8,1986. The schedule for the conduct of the special tests and submittal of reports should they be required will also be provided with the August 8, 1986 report.

If you have any questions, please advise.
