UW River Falls possesses an encapsulated PuBe neutron source under license SNM-542 with an expiration date of 5-31-83 as indicated in the attached copy of the renewal l
notice. The source is in excellent condition and is not leaking.
However, an cvaluation of our academic 5.rogram indicates that there is no need to retain the source for educational or research purposes at this time.
Therefore, the physics department has decided to transfer the source to another educational institution cnd/or return and/or dispose of the source in a proper manner.
Preliminary in-vestigation has indicated that another institution within the W-Systen may be interested in the source.
UW-River Falls therefore wishes to request an extension of the current license for 6 months (until 11-30-88) in order to transfer or dispose of the source in the proper manner.
It is my understanding via telephone that this letter is sufficient to complete the request.
