SUBJECT:
NRC INTEGRATED INSPECTION REPORT 50-271/99-01 -
Dear Mr. Maret:
'
On February 14,1999, the NRC completed an inspection at your Vermont Yankee (VY) reactor
,
_ facility.- In addition to the resident inspection activities, announced inspections of the
Radiological Controls program and Security program were performed by regional specialists.
The enclosed report presents the results of these inspections.
During the six week period covered by this inspection report, the overall conduct of activities at
-
. VY was characterized by safe operations and maintenance. Our review of your radiation
'
protection program performance for 1998 found overall performance to be good. We also
reviewed your recent efforts to update your records of spills or other unusual occurrences
i
involving the spread of contamination in and around the facility for decommissioning planning
j
purposes. Our review found that in some cases, documentation was not sufficiently detailed to
)
fully assess some locations with respect to the requirements of 10 CFR 50.75 relative to its
impact on decommissioning. The' security program inspection found that VY is implementing a
security program that effectively protects against acts of radiological sabotage.
In accordance with 10 CFR 2.790 of the NRC's " Rules of Practices," a copy of this letter and its
enclosures will be placed in the NRC Public Document Room.
Sincerely,
Original Signed by:
Clifford J. Anderson, Chief
Projects Branch 5
