~I REGION V 0,%,... *,o'g 1450 MARI A LANE. SUITE 210 WALNUT CREE K, CALIFORNIA 94596 MAR 2 01987 MEMORANDUM FOR: Glen L. Sjoblom, Chief Safeguards and Materials Programs Branch, IE FROM:

James L. Montgomery, Chief Nuclear Materials Safety and Safeguards Branch

SUBJECT:

INSPECTION PROCEDURE FOR REVIEW 0F RADIOGRAPHY PERSONNEL CERTIFICATION / QUALIFICATION As we discussed during our recent conference call, I am enclosing a copy of the subject procedure for your use in developing a TI.

We continue to be concerned that the absence of training certification for radiographers and assistant radiographers may not be confined to U. S. Testing Company.

On a related issue, I am also enclosing a copy of suggested guidance questions to be used when interviewing radiographers to ascertain their competency. We have also sent a copy of the questions to each Region and asked for their comments.

Any coments you wish to make on either document would be welcome.
