SUMMARY
OF JULY 20, 2020, PRE-SUBMITTAL MEETING WITH GENERAL ELECTRIC-HITACHI NUCLEAR ENERGY AMERICAS, LLC. AND THE U.S. NUCLEAR REGULATORY COMMISSION TO DISCUSS NEDO-11209, QUALITY ASSURANCE PROGRAM DESCRIPTION (QAPD), REVISION 16 On July 20, 2020, the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) staff held a Category 1 public meeting with representatives from General Electric-Hitachi Nuclear Energy Americas, LLC (GEH). The purpose of the meeting was for GEH and the NRC staff to discuss GEH Topical Report NEDO-11209, GE Hitachi Nuclear Energy Quality Assurance Program Description (QAPD), Revision 16, proposed changes and review schedule. The meeting was noticed on July 1, 2020. The information discussed is publicly available and is described as the Pre-application Presentation Slides for Amendment to NEDO-11209 Revision 15, GE Hitachi Nuclear Energy Quality Assurance Program Description. The GEH representative presented on the proposed changes and rationale, the desired schedule of reviews and issuance processes of the QAPD, Revision 16. GEH plans to submit the QAPD, Revision 16, on July 27, 2020. Regarding the review schedule, the NRC staff explained that the schedule will be determined after the QAPD, Revision 16, submittal and will be communicated with GEH. D. Morey end of the meeting, there was a question on Section 11, Test Control, of the draft revised QAPD which references Subpart 2.7, Quality Assurance Requirements for Computer Software for Nuclear Facility Applications. A member of the public noted that the GEH slides stated the draft revised QAPD will add a description for software acceptance testing to be more closely aligned with the terminology of Subpart 2.7 in Section 11. The NRC staff explained that Subpart 2.7 does not introduce any new terminology. The subpart expands on the unique requirements when testing software and uses existing standard industry terminology.
