Dear Mr. Mallet:
Ch November 19, 1985, Sequoyah Fuels Corporation (SFC) requested authori-zation to possess 6,000 kilograms of thorium in any physical or chemical form to permit efficient decontamination of the old burial grounds at the Cimarron Facility. This authorization request is still under review by NRC.
We are requesting additional authorization at this time to increase the possession limit of uranium enriched to 55.0 weight percent U-235 from 1,200 grams to 6,000 grams.
The present 1,200 gram possession limit is adequate to cover the decontamination activities in the Uranium Plant Building.
- However, decontamination of the sanitary lagoons has commenced, and decontamination of the old burial grounds will be started in the near future which may create a situation where the possession limit could be exceeded.
The U-235 content of the solids from the sanitary lagoons vill be approximately 400 to 500 grams per truckload, and we need the latitudo of loading out two or three truckloads at a time. This procedure voub3 '.;a the same for decontamination of the burial grounds.
We request immediate approval of these revised possession limits so that decontamination activities at the facility may be expedited.
