Dear Senator Humphrey EU3 J3! 12 /Ji O 45 I have some questions and concerns regarding the Seabrook N.H.
nuclear power plant. I don' t understand how this plant got as far as it did considering how opposed the people were from the beginning.
I understand the evacuation planning consists of a 10 mile radius. What conclusion led the authorities to believe that 10 miles is a sufficient radius to be concerned about? In light of the Chernobl accident it seems quite clear that 10 miles is not enough.
Since the federal authorities seem to have created this 10 mile limit for evacuation planning are they prepared to change this in the near future? I' m 13 miles away from this Beabrook plant and don' t feel any safer. I don't think the American public is informed well enough e
regarding the seriousness of an accident. They do not know what to do in case of an accident. Why don' t they know? Why isn' t there much information around? Are we suppose to drop to the ground immediately following the accident? We Just don' t know.
I was very upset to find out that many surrounding N.H.
towns d idn' t participate in the evacuation plans because they didn' t want this plant to go on line, so Governor Sununu submitted plans for the state. He hasn' t educated anyone nor relayed what we are suppose to do in case of an accident. I can' t believe he has the authority to pull such a thing. Does the Federal Government really believe these plans
)
are adequate? If not what do they plan on doing about it?
l Its now up to Governor Dukakis to prevent the licensing of this plant. Its seems probable to me that his reelection this fall will L
have a major influence on his decision. Its unfortunate that the
+
peoples wishes can' t be one of the major determining factors. For that matter I believe Governor Sununu will not be reelected because of his involvement with this plant.
I understand -the initial plans submitted to the state for Seabrook to be the site for this plant stated the population for the area based on the winter population. There is a considerable difference in the l
summer population and winter. Have you been'to Seabrook beach l
yourself?
I understand this will be one of the largest plants in the United States? 1200 megawatts of power will be generated. This plant will also have the largest population within a 10 mile radius, over a quarter of a million in the summer months.
I' d like to receive information on the Cherenobl plant? Will this be available to the American public? What is your position regarding the Seabe tok plant? please send me more information and answer the questions 1 Save asked abave.
