REVIEW 0F " MODIFICATION 3. CHANGE NO.14 (RAD 0N BARRIER THICKNESS) TO THE REMEDIAL ACTION PLAN AND SITE CONCEPTUAL DESIGN FOR STABILIZATION OF THE INACTIVE URANIUM MILL TAILINGS SITE AT SHIPROCK, NEW MEXICO," MAY 1986 (UMTRAP)
In response to Technical Assistance Request WM-86512, we have reviewed the final proposed RAP modification pertinent to the revised Shiprock radon barrier design.
The proposed modification is to decrease the thickness of the radon barrier material on the top slope of the pile from 7 feet to 6.4 feet. WMEG had previously provided a preliminary review (TAR #WM 86379, May 8, 1986) of the calculations pertinent to this proposed design change and concluded that the proposed design does comply with the radon attenuation requirements set forth in 40 CFR Part 192.
The subject document is the formal documentation of the RAP modification which reflects this proposed design change.
Based on our review of the subject document and our previous review of the calculations and design, we recommend that the staff grant concurrence to DOE for this modification.
