During the six (6) month period ending December 31,1997 Northern States Power Company conducted (992) drug and alcohol tests in accordance with 10 CFR Part 26.
NEP workers subject to random drug and alcohol testing are each assigned to one of three pools: Prairie Island Monticclio, and General Office. Random test rates for each pool are as follows:

Prairie Island 52.72%
Al.L 53.14 %
For the reporting period ending December 31,1997, ten (10) workers tested positive for drugs or alcohol and were immediately denied unescorted access to NSP Nuclear Plants.
Of this group three (3) contract workers tested positive for marijuana (THC) and one (1) contract worker tested positive for alcohol on pre-access drug and alcohol tests. The above workers were immediately denied access to NSP nuclear facilities for a minimum of one (1) year.
Two (2) licensee employees tested positive for marijuana (THC) on pre-access drug tests. One (1) of the above workers was immediately denied access to NSP nuclear facilities for a minimum of fourteen (14) days and has not been returned to duty. One (1) of the above workers tested positive for a second time and was denied access to NSP nuclear facilities for a minimum of three (3) years.
One (1) licensee employee tested positive for alcohol on a pre-access alcohol test. The worker was immediately denied access and has not been returned to duty.

The worker was immediately denied access for a minimum of fourteen (14) days. This worker has been returned to duty.
Two (2) craft workers tested positive for mariluana (THC) on pre access drug tests.
One (1) of the above workers was immediately denied access for a minimum of fourteen (14) days and has since resigned. One (1) of the above workers was immediately denied access for a minimum cf one (1) year, 2.
For the semi annual period referenced herein all blind specimens submitted to NSP's HHS-certified laboratory yielded expected results.
3, NSP has analyzed progral performance data for the six (6) month period ending December 31,1997 and has revised existing FFD procedures to incorporate enhancements as indicated by the arSlysis.

NSP continues to test for marijuana metabolites using an initial cutoff level of (50 ng/ml).
This change was initiated on September 1,1994 and communicated to the NRC by letter dated September 22,1994.
NSP performed (992) drug tests under the lower initis' cut-off level for Marijuana as referenced above. Of seven (7) Marijuana positives during this reporting period, zero (0) positive tests were less than 100ng/mi but greater than 50ng/ml. There were seven (7) positive results testing at greater than 100ng/ml. Breakdown by worker type and quantification is as follows:
