Dear Mr. Denton:
This is to provide additional information regarding the design of Category I masonry walls at Braidwood S^ta, tion. Per response to FSAR Q130.60, Commonwealth Edison indicated that safety-related masonry walls at Braidwood would be surveyed for the presence of structural cracks. That work has now been completed. The enclosed report identifies all the structural cracka and explains why these cracks do not compromise the structural integrity of the walls.
In addition, six walls that presently have cracks are being repaired. These walls will be repaired by replacing the blocks that are cracked. When the walls are repaired no cracks will exist.
Included in this list are expected completion dates of repair.

Conversation Request From NRC of July 1, 1983 Response to Braidwood FSAR Question 130.60 Question:
"Providts the report on the survey of the structural cracks that exist in the Braidwood Units 1 and 2 safety related walls with explanation of their origin and of their effects on the wall design strength and structural integrity."
Response
The safety related nasonry walls at Braidwood Station have been surveyed for cracks.
Of the 607 walls surveyed, 27 have structural cracks.
The attached table and figures identify the structural cracks and describes why these cracks de not affect the structural integrity of the wall.

A modification has been at Columns SK-6A-81 installed at 8A-30's crack SK-8A-03 (located at 17 line) to SK-8A-30 (Cracks ensure structural integrity.
near column line 17 Walls 3A-34, 8A-30 (15 line),
and column line 15) 6A-81, 8A-03, and 9A-01 SK-9A-01 (C2, C3)
(cracks C2 and C3) contain local non-thru vertical cracks at support locations (masonry wall columns or abutting wall).
These cracks do not affect the structural integrity of the wall since the wall is assumed to span horizontally and the cracks are located at theore tical hinge points of simply-supported spans.
