!

! Dear Mr. Patuiski: .

-

i

" On February 6,1998, the NRC completed an inspection of the rediaton protection program at l

'

your Point Beach Nuclear Plant. The results of this inspection were discussed on that date with -

l

Mr. Cayla and other members of your stafi. The enclosed report presents the results of that

Inspection.
The purpose of the inspection was to review health physics' preparations for the Unit i rt.;ueling

l outage, including dose goals, ALARA reviews, work planninn, radiation work permit process,

'

and contractor health physics technolo0i st quellfications and training, in addition, several open  ;

j-  !!ams from previous inspections were closed or discussed.

Tne Unit i refueling outage appropriately considered health physics requirements and

'-

radiologicalimpediments associated with the outage. ALARA reviews hce complete and

4

offectively used historical data and lessons loamed frcm previctis outages. Contractor health

t physics technologist qualifications had been reviecd and training was being provided based -

on those reviews. Our review of several radiological protection open items indicated that

i effective corrective actions had been implemented; therefore, thi iteres will be clossd. i

i- i

l No violations of NRC requirements were identified during the course of this intpection. {

'

in accordance with 10 CFR 2.790 of the NRC's Rules of Practice," a copy of this letter and its
