" On February 6,1998, the NRC completed an inspection of the rediaton protection program at

your Point Beach Nuclear Plant. The results of this inspection were discussed on that date with -
'
Mr. Cayla and other members of your stafi. The enclosed report presents the results of that
Inspection.
The purpose of the inspection was to review health physics' preparations for the Unit i rt.;ueling
l
outage, including dose goals, ALARA reviews, work planninn, radiation work permit process,
and contractor health physics technolo0 st quellfications and training, in addition, several open
i
'
j-
!!ams from previous inspections were closed or discussed.
Tne Unit i refueling outage appropriately considered health physics requirements and
' -
radiologicalimpediments associated with the outage. ALARA reviews hce complete and
offectively used historical data and lessons loamed frcm previctis outages. Contractor health

physics technologist qualifications had been reviecd and training was being provided based

on those reviews. Our review of several radiological protection open items indicated that
effective corrective actions had been implemented; therefore, thi iteres will be clossd.

No violations of NRC requirements were identified during the course of this intpection.
