SUBJECT: NRC INSPECTION REPORT 50-482/98-03
Dear Mr. Maynard:
From February 2 to 6,1998, a routine liquid and gaseous radioactive waste management
- inspection was conducted at your Wolf Creek Nuclear Plant reactor facility. The enclosed report
t
presents the scope and results of the inspection.
Our inspection verified that your liquid and gaseous radioactive waste effluent management
program was property implemented.
It is our understanding thai during the exit meeting on February 6,1998, Mr. Clay Warren, Vice
President, Operations / Chief Operating Officor, stated that Wolf Creek Nuclear Operating
Corporation will complete the testing of the meteorological data screening criteria, the
,
development of a computer program to validats the meteorological tower instrumentation datt.,
and validate the meteorological tcwer instrumentation data for 1997 by March 15,1998, usirg
the tested criter;a and compu'.er program. He air,o stated that the meteorological tower
instrumentation data for the years 1990 througn 1996 will also be validated using the
meteorological validation program, and the results will be reported in the 1997 Annual r_ffluent
Release Report. Please confirm this regulatory commitment in writing within 30 days of the date
of this letter,
in accordance with 10 CFR 2.790 of the NRC's " Rules of Practice," a copy of this letter and its
enclosure will be placed in the NRC Public Document Room.
Should you have any questions concerning this inspection, we will be pleased to discuss them
with you.
