NRC INTEGRATED INSPECTION REPORT 50-327/97-18 AND 50-328/97-18
Dear Mr. Zeringue:
This refers to the ins)ection conducted on December 21, 1997. through
January 31, 1998, at tie Sequoyah facility. The enclosed report presents the
results of this inspection.
.
During the-inspection period, your conduct of activities at the Sequoyah
l
facility was generally characterized by good operations, maintenance,-
l
engineering and plant support.
Operations performance was generally good:
).
however, problems were noted with clearance control that led to a contaminated
spill. Maintenance review of issues was noted to be good.
Engineering
activities in support of plant operations for the reactor coolant pump motor
high temperature. relief valve setpoint drift. and pressure switch setpoint
drift issues were considered to be good.
Overall plant support was considered
to be good; however, weaknesses were identified with work activities
associated with cleaning the auxiliary equipment building sump.
Based on the results of this inspection, the NRC has determined that a
violation of NRC requirements occurred.
The violation is cited in the
enclosed Notice of Violation (Notice) and the circumstances surrounding it are
described in detail in the subject inspection report.
The violation involved
failures to properly frisk out of an radiological control area as required by
,
site procedures and postings.
You are required to respond to this letter and should follow the instructions
specified in the enclosed Notice when preparing your response.
The NRC will
use your response, in part, to determine whether further enforcement action is
necessary to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
