First Selectman Thomas A. Sheridan 15 Rope Ferrv Road Waterford, Connecticut 06385
Dear Mr. Sheridan:
On behalf of the staff at the Nuclear Regulatory Commission, I would like to express our appreciation for the support you provided for the February 9,1999, public meeting we held at the Waterford Town Hall on our decommissioning program for Millstone Nuclear Power Station, Unit 1 (MP1). It was an important meeting dealing with an issue that was clearly of substantial public interest.
Having an open, constructive dialog with the public in the vicinity of nuclear power plants is an important step in achieving our goal of providing appropriate opportunities for public participation in our regulatory programs. As the locally elected First Selectman of the Town of Waterford, you were well qualified to take an active role in our meeting by serving as the moderator. We appreciate your willingness to perform that important function, and I have received several comments on how your participation contributed to the meeting's success.
As noted during the meeting, I am the NRC staff principal point of contact for licensing issues related to the decommissioning of MP1. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have questions, as either an interested citizen or in your capacity as e local govemment official, on our regulatory programs or how they will be applied to the MP1 decommissioning activities.
Thank you for your support.
Sincerely, Original Signed by:
