SUBJECT:

ITEMS OF INTEREST WEST VALLEY SHIPMENT STUDY FC has completed its review of the draft final report entitled " Case Histories of West Valley Spent Fuel Shipments" submitted by Aerospace Corporation.

Staff has forwarded a number of comments to the contractor, suggesting a redraft of the report. Staff anticipates completion of the final report by August 1986. -

NUCLEAR FUEL SERVICES, INC.

On July 24, 1986, members of NMSS, SP, OGC, and IE met with Mr. Patrick Stevens, Nuclad, Inc., Denver, Colorado, to discuss what information would be needed for NRC approval to transfer ownership of a licensed facility. Nuclad, Inc., is interested in purchasing the NFS, Erwin facility.

STATUS OF HEARINGS

1. Sequoyah Fuels, Gore, Oklahoma, UF to UF 6 4 Administrative Judge Frye has scheduled a meeting of all parties to the informal hearing on August 1,1986, in Sallisaw, Oklahoma. The informal hearing has now been tentatively rescheduled for the week of August 11, 1986. However, by memorandum dated July 3, 1986, Judge Frye recommended to the Commission the adoption of formal hearing procedures. Action by the Commission on these recommendations may impact the schedulc for the hearing.
2. Sequoyah Fuels, Gore, Oklahoma, Comprehensive Waste Disposal Plan The hearing is being held in abeyance pending submitta' ,f a new plan as part of the revision to the decommissioning plan requi eu y source Material License No SUB-1010, Condition No. 21.

s JUL 3 61905 The ASLB decision dated June 19, 1986, dismissed the Order to Show Cause issued to Kerr-McGee Chemical Corporation on March 2, 1984. On June 30, 1986, the staff filed a notice of appeal with ASLAB.

4. Kerr-McGee Rare Earths Facility, Decommissioning Plan, West Chicago, Illinois This hearing is being held in abeyance pending the staff's completion of the supplement to the Environmental Impact Statement. The current schedule calls for issuance of the Draft Supplement by October 1,1986, and the Final by May 1, 1987. The Board has indicated that they may resume a portion of the Hearing after the Draft is issued.
