Dear Mr. Larson:

h I am responding to your letter of January 21,1998, to Chairman Jackson, in which you requested that U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission staff attend the two Low Level Radioactive Waste (LLW) Forum meetings esch year outside of the Washington, DC area. You also provided a summary of the benefits and cost savings of NRC staff participation at these meetings, both to the LLW Forum and to NRC.

We appreciate your views on NRC participation in these meetings. We have reconsidered our decision and an NRC staff member is attending the LLW Forum in San Diego, CA, Febru;ry 10-13,1998. We cannot, of coa,La, ccm' nit to attend every meeting in the future at this tirne. We will, I,owever, give careful considerstion to our participation in each upcoming meeting, including al' ' the advantages that you have identified in your letter to the Chairman.
