Ross Chappell Introduction A meeting was held at the request of Amersham Corporation at Rockville.
Maryland, on November 20. 1997, concerning the failure of Amersham Corporation's Model No. 660 during hypothetical accident conditions tests.
The meeting involved a discussion of the cause of the package failure and possible corrective measures.
Discussion 1.
Amersham presented a video of the fire testing, as well as post-fire testing radiographs, of several Model No. 660 test packages. A discussion of the package failure followed, including a detailed discussion of the failure mechanisms associated with the through bolt screws.
2.
Amersham suggested _several possible corrective measures for the 660 package, including higher quality boits or impact limiters.
NRC suggested that the package needs more structural connection between the

two face plates.

.NRC suggested that Amersham request another meeting upon completion of a final-design fix and revised physical testing plan.
