Docket No.

50-309 Unit Maine Yankee Date 860205 Completed by James M Taylor Telephone 207-882-6321 Report Month January 1986 NARRATIVE

SUMMARY

DE OPERATING EXPERIENCES At the beginning of the month power was increasing through 94.2%.

A load reduction had been made on December 31 due to waterbox fouling.

On 1 January 97.3% power was reached.

On 3 January a load decrease to 55% was commenced to place P2C, the turbine driven main feedwater pump, on line.

At 0100 on 4 January load was stabili:ed at 55% and turbine valve testing was performed.

At 1100 on 4 January the plant was tripped manually due to a high condenser pressure differential.

At 0530 on 5 January the unit was phased to the grid.

On 6 January power was stabili ed at 98% while Westinghouse representatives evaluated the generator's ability to accept 100% power.

On 7 January commenced loading to 100%.

On 8 January power stabilized at 100%.

On 11 January a load reduction to 75% power was made due to reduced flow 1

through the "D" waterbox and low amperage on P26D.

On 12 January, the "D" waterbox was cleaned and a power increase started.

On 13 January power was stabili:ed at 99.7%.

On 14 January a load reduction to 75% power was made due to "C" waterbox Amertap screen blockage.

On 15 January power was increased to 99.7%.

Power level was restricted to 2610-2615 MWth (99.3%) or BSO MWe for the remainder of the month due to delta T power fluctuations in RPS channels A and C.

On 17 January power was decreased to 75% due to chloride intrusion in the "D" waterbox.

At 0120 on 18 January power stabilized at 96% for symetric offset control.

At 0000 on 18 January a power increase to 99% was commenced.

NARRATIVE

SUMMARY

OF OPERATING EXPERIENCES (cont)

At 1522, on 18 January, a power reduction to 75% was ccmmenced due to chloride intrusion in the "D"

waterbox.

At 2204 on 18 January a power reduction to 54% was mada due to a loss of circulating water flow in the "C" waterbox.

On 19 January power was increased to 99%.

On 25 January power was reduced to 75% due to fouling of the "D" waterbox.

On 26 January, 99.3% power was reached and maintained for the remainder of the month.

The plant operated at a limit of 99.3% power due to delta T power fluctuations in RPS channels A and C.

The plant remained at 99.3% power for the remainder of the month.
