SUBJECT: NRC INSPECTION REPORT 50-298/9717
Dear Mr. Hcfn:
An NRC inspection was conducted November 17-20,1997, at your Cooper Nuclear Stdion reactor
facility.~ The enclosed report presents the scope and results of that inspection.
We observed improved requalification program and licensed operator performance during the
0=
annual operator requalification operating examinations and in the plant control room. Program
improvementsincluded enhanced examination security awareness, good techniques exhibited by
your staff evaluators,and involvementof your operations managementin the evaluation and critigte
processes. Operator performance improvements included crew oversight, communications, and
procedure usage.
in accordance with 10 CFR 2.790 of the NRC's " Rules of Practice," a copy of this letter and its
enclosure will be placed in the NRC Public Document Room (PDR),
