Dr. J. Nelson Grace SPR 86-004 Page Two April 8, 1986 EVENT DESCRIPTION On March'11, 1986, the fire detector system associated with Zone 000 of the Reactor Building began continuous alarming and resetting.

ACTION TAKEN Reactor building temperature readings were taken and the condition inside the containment was verified to be normal. Subsequently, smoke detectors in Zone 000 were declared inoperable, disabled, and compensatory action initiated as required by Action Statement a. of Technical Specification 3.3.3.7, " Fire Detection Instrumentation."

Smoke detectors a f fec ted are located at the 495 ft. elevation of Steam Generator "B" cubicle and above the operating floor (463) in the South East and South West quadrant at the 514 ft, elevation.

A maintenance work request has been initiated for the repair of-the.

system to be completed during the next shutdown of su f ficient duration.
