Dear Dr. Didwall:
The draft report on " Diffusive Transport of Gaseous Radionuclides" and the preliminary tables of critical parameters for salt have have been reviewed.
These written comments serve as a follow-up to your recent visit.
In general, the report on gaseous diffusion looks good. The section on measurements is the one that is of greatest interest to the NRC, inasmuch as the theory of diffusion has been previously described by the University of Arizona, although in a somewhat different form.
If there is any way to put more emphasis on the measurement section and expand it, it would be very useful. Also, a table of contents will be needed when the final report is assembled. As usual I an enclosing copies of report pages with suggested typographic corrections.
The tables on critical parameters for salt appear to be suitable. As an only comment I would like to add that hydrostratigraphic unit depth, etc. in Fig. I should have two stars instead of one.
Sincerely, N
Ernst G. Zurflueh, Geophysicist Earth Sciences Branch Office of Nuclear Regulatory Research
