INTRODUCTION:

. This report: c6ntains results of tests conducted on PIDG PVF2 radiatiom resistant terminals. Testing was conducted to evaluate-the products.

performance wherc subjected to bending of terminal tongues. of 600 and 900 and a twist of the tongue approximately 450 These variations were subjected to.

Millivolt drop followed by vibration and a final millivolt drop measurement -

per MIL-T-79286. Testing was conducted in AMP Laboratories during the month.

of March, 1985 TEST SPECIMEN DESCRIPTION The following Terminals and quantities were tested.

Cuantities Der Test Group Terminal Part No. Wire Size G roup 1 Group 2 Group 1 53h25-L 10 AWG 4 E 600 Bends 4 e 900 Bends k @ 45 Twists Wire used for testing was per MIL-W-5086 with tin plated copper strands.

TEST SCHEDULE Terminals were subjected to the following test in the sequence specified.

Test Groue and Secuence Test Groue 1 Grego 2 Groun i Voltage Droo 1-3 1-4 1-;

" Vibration 2 2 ?

TEST METHODS Voltare Droo. Each terminal was measured for voltage rop by energizing with 55 amperes with DC current and probing at the, intersection of the tongue and wire barrel and a point on the wire 6" back from the terminal probe point.

Vibration. Terminals were rigidly mounted to and not more than 1 inch above the vibrating platform by their normal mounting means. The test terminals were so mounted that the junction of-the other end of the test sample was secured to a stable support 12 inches external to the vibrating tabl,e with all slack or tension removed from the wire. The specimens were vibrated in accordance with method 201 of MIL-STD-200 for 18 hours2.083333e-4 days
0.005 hours
2.97619e-5 weeks
6.849e-6 months
on each of two axes mutually perpendicular to each other and to the axis of the wire.

All other samples displayed no signs of physical damage.

APPENDIX A i

The sample which broke off after 9 0 hours0 days
0 hours
0 weeks
0 months
in the first plane- of vibration l apparently was mounted improperly a: all of the remaining samples of group 1 I and the other two groups vent the full 18 hours2.083333e-4 days
0.005 hours
2.97619e-5 weeks
6.849e-6 months
of both planes without displaying any signs._of physical damage.

i Based on the information acquired from this test, we can say that any static application, with little or no vibration present, should see no detrimental results through bending of the togue on a one time basis to 600 or 900 The

, same can be said of the tvisted tongue to 450 Even if the terminals were to face moderate vibration such as that set up by heavy equipment running, we feel that the testing proves that the terminations will withstand such a condition without any detrimental affects.

FAL!!G CF TTM!I!ces In reply to ycur ques tion this date, "How :a2ch can you bend any of our terminals?"

It is nct pernissible to bend any of our terminals 90" in tre field.

During manufacturing when we bend a terminal 90', it is anncaled after bending to relicyc stresses and prevent cracking frc:n vibratien. It is parmissibic to 1:erid car general product 1cose piece terminals manu-factured frcm folly annealed copper 60* max. ,.cne time only, since this amount of bond dcce not set.up the kind of stresses you experience in a 90* bend.
