'In response to the referenced request (Ref. 2) for projected SNM-960 (Ref.1) licensing requests,

On January 22,1999, a request for license SNM-960 renewal was mailed to the NRC. It is unknown how long renewal negotiations will take. Our timing for renewal is unimportant, as E.

long as we are considered to be in timely renewal. No' changes to our possession limits or activities _were requested. Reference was made to an earlier (1998) request for general L

o amendments to specific items in the license and supporting documents. It is anticipated that

additional amendments, such as organization changes, may be requested before the year 2002,

but the exact nature and timing are not predictable at this time.

c Other requests for NRC licensing actions related to the Vallecitos Nuclear Center include:

l. : A request for renewal of the General Electric Nuclear Test Reactor (NTR), License R-33 was 1

L submitted on September 30,1997. A request from the NRC for additional information, dated /LS f

_ October 20,' 1998, is being addressed.

H l 2. LThe Certificate of Compliance, Number 9228, for the Model 2000. shipping package will

~ expire on June 30,1999. A request for renewal will be submitted before expiration. Other E

t amendments to this C. of C. are possible, but impossible to predict at this time.
