SUBJECT:

DECEMBER 12, 1985 WEST VALLEY EA BRIEFING Fuel Cycle has invited Waste Management to provide any coments it may have as a result of the 12/12/85 West Valley EA briefing.

As a result of the 12/13/85 briefing with Mr. Browning, it was determined that the following questions may generate additional coments:

1)

Have other alternative disposal methods been considered for on-site disposal (ex. augered holes)? Mark Larson, Joel Hunt.

2)

Is it apparent that the Class A trenches will not be in the zone of groundwater fluctuation? Mark Larson.

3)

Has it been determined that leaching will not be a factor for the tumulus?

Roy Person.

4)

Has the generation of gas or heat been considered in relation to the durability of a geofabric? Stan Neuder, Roy Person.

5)

Has the monitoring prcgram considered possible interference from/to the currently existing disposal sites? Mark Larsen.

6)

Can it be detemined that the waste form and waste class will or will not meet NRC performance objectives? Roy Person.

7)

Have site erosion and disposal unit erosion been adequately addressed?

Ted Johnson.

8) is the identified disposal site the most technically acceptable site that is available? Saraka, Larson.

9)

Has the proposed action (i.e. tumulus and trenches) been considered in the overall picture of the West Valley site (How does it fit in with future 4

considerations for the state and NRC site?) ? L. Saraka i

It is proposed that the individual (s) that appear after each question attempt to address that specific issue.
