Additional Inf ormation Concerning Snubber Visual Inspe c t ions
Dear Mr. Denton:
The purpose of this le t te r is to provide clarification of inf ormation provided in reference I concerning a request f or a partial exemption to ASME Se c t ion XI re quire ment s for snu bbe r ins pe c t ion s.
In a discussion with membe rs of your staf f, additional information was re que s te d to clearly ide nt if y the bounda rie s of snubbers which will be visually inspected in accordance with the Wolf Creek Generating Station (WCGS),
Unit No.
1, Technical Specifications.
The boundaries of the Technical Specification visual inspection of snubbers at WCGS include t he snu bbe r structural attachment to the foundation or supporting structure, up to and including the fasteners for connecting the snubbers to the pipe attachment or component attachment.
Fasteners are pins or bolts which connect the snubber to a pipe or component attachcont.
The pipe or component a t ta chme nt is not cons ide re d part of the Technical Spe cif ica t ion snubbe r visual inspection however it is included in the WCGS ASME Section XI inservice inspection program.
Also, any component support s tee l,
including ASME Section III NF steel, connected to the snubbe r structural attachment will be visually inspected under WCGS ASME Section XI re qui re me nt s.
If any part of the boundary included in the Technical Specification inspection cannot be ve rif ie d to be f unct iona l due to insulation inte rfe re nce then the insulation will be removed to satisf y the inspection requirements contained in the Technical Specifications,.
