Nonh Atlantic Energy Seniec Corporation (North Atlantic) hereby reports the entrapment of one seal at Seabrook Station. The seal was obsen'ed in Seabrook Station's Circulating Water System Pumphouse forebay on February 6,1998 and was recovered the same day. North Atlantic notified the National hinrine Fisheries Service of this entrapment incident by telephone' The New England Aquarium has picked up the seal in order to perform a necropsy in the near future.

This report is made in response to the National hiarine Fisheries Service letter dated January 5, 3

1995, recumending that North Atlantic report seal entrapment incidents, The attached seal entrapment incident repod is enclosed as requested.

North Atlantic submitted an application for a Small Take Exemption Pennit on June 13,19975 for the incidental taking of seals pursuant to Section 101(a)(5)(A) of the hiarine hiammal Protection Act and in accordance with 50 CFR 216.104, Notification of Seal Entrapment incident, Telephone N$tification by J, llart (Nonh Atlantic) to S. Date of Recovery: Scal accovered on February 6,1998.

• Species identincation: Probably a harbor seal.

Description / Condition of Scal: Intact and in good condition.

Reporter: Ronald A. Sher, Senior Scientist Recent Seal Observations: A young-of the. year harbor seal was recovered on December 5,1997. An incident report was submitted to the NMFS*.

Recent Fish lmpingement:

During the week prior to the seal entrapment, about 1,200 fish were impinged, including red hake, windowpane and winter Counder, smelt and silveiside.

Cooling Water in:ake Ternperature at Approximate Time of Entrapment: 36*F Plant Power Level at Time of Entrapment:

Seabrook Station was operating at 100 percent.
