Mr. Peter S. Tam, Project Manager Project Directorate No. 2 Division of PWR Licensing - A Washington, DC 20555 Mail Stop 340 -

Reference:

Beaver Valley Power Station, Unit No. 1 Docket No. 50-334, License No. DPR-66 Inservice Testing Program - Ten-Year Update Gentlemen:

Enclosed are:

(1)

Forty (40) copies of the BVPS Unit 1 Inservice Testing Program for Pumps and Valves, Issue 2, Revision 0 and three (3) sets of color-coded system drawings.

The Inservice Testing (IST) Program has been updated based on the 1983 Edition through the Summer 1983 Addenda of ASME,Section XI in accordance with 10 CFR 50.55a(g)(4).

This update was intended for use during the second 120-month inspection interval, however, the implementation date may vary as described below.

The IST Program also contains relief requests from certain code requirements which have been determined to be impractical for BVPS, Unit 1 in accordance with 10 CFR 50.55a(g)(5)(iii).

The initial 120-month inspection interval will expire on September 30, 1986.

However, in our letter dated February 3,

1986, we requested an extension to the initial 120-month inspection interval until September 20, 1987 in order for this program to coincide with the Inservice Inspection (ISI) 120-month interval.

Therefore, the start of the second 120-month inspection. interval for the IST Program will depend on the NRC's disposition of our extension h

request.

-m a 08' Since our updated IST Program is

complete, we would like to implement this program in one of two ways.

If our request to extend ma our initial inspection interval is denied, we expect to implement es this program October 1,

1986 as our second 120-month inspection 38 interval begins.

Alternatively, 10CFR50.55a(g)(4)(iv) states that a DA Licensee may meet the requirements set forth in subsequent editions and addenda of the

Code, subject to Commission approval.

It is therefore requested that the NRC review this issue of our program for j h implementation for the remainder of the initial 120-month inspection Nd Shn* IS f

L

- 3 Banver Vclley Powsr Station, Unit No. 1 Dock t No. 50-334, Licrnso No. DPR-66 Inservice Testing Program - Ten-Year Update Page 2 interval.

If our request to extend this initial interval is granted and approval is given to utilize the later version of the Code as stated

above, this program would go into effect on the day of your approval and would remain in effect until September 20, 1987.

The second 120-month interval inspection program would be developed in accordance with 10CFR50.55a(g)(4).

If the Commission does not endorse any subsequent editions or addenda of the Code by September 20,

1986, then thin updated program will be utilized for our second i

120-month inspection interval.

Submittal of this updated program at this time should assure adequate time for NRC review such that implementation on October 1, 1986 can be accomplished regardless of the disposition of our extension request.

We would like to implement this updated program by October 1, 1986 if our request for extension is granted.

If you have any questions concerning this submittal, please contact my office.

A check in the amount of $150.00 for payment of the application fee in accordance with 10 CFR 170 will be submitted under separate Cover.

Very truly yours,

{U
